Harpoon Cider
Poured in a similar glass, you’d have trouble telling the difference between this and a white wine. The smell, however, is pure apple juice.
Carbonation is evident from the first sip, a refreshingly bubbliness. Starts sweet, but is countered by a very tart finish. Definitely has some apple flavor, but I’m not really blown away by it.
Kind of a middle of the road cider, but not bad.
Grade: C
Harpoon Leviathan Imperial IPA
Harpoon Leviathan Imperial IPA unquestionably lives up to the promise with the aroma. A complex mixture of hops promises a big hop wallop with the first sip. And while this beer is big and rather bitter, there is enough malt backbone to even things out. I should note I am having this a little after the “best by” date on the bottle. It hasn’t gone bad, but perhaps the hops are not as prominent as intended.
A blend of grapefruit and pine hit first, some lightly toasted, then a gigantic hit of bitter grassy hops that linger for a long time. There is also a bit of heat from the 10% ABV.
Well, it’s a hop bomb at more than 100+ IBUs. I think you know what to expect.
Grade: B
