This is my second offering from Bayou Teche, the LA-31 Biere Noire. This is also the second time there is so much carbonation it takes several pours to get it into the glass. I’d like to think I haven’t forgotten how to pour. However, this does give this dark ale a chance to come to the right temperature.
I like the aroma. It’s very rich and roasty. A bit lighter mouthfeel than I expected. Roasted malt and coffee really shine through. Bitter chocolate comes through late. Dry, chalky finish.
Tough to categorize this one. It’s not smooth enough to be a porter, and the flavors are wrong to be a stout. But it tastes good, and that’s what’s matters.
À votre santé!
